The 21st Century is characterized by a dizzying pace of change and enormous competition. Indus helps students handle these challenges through a well-designed curriculum that is a right mix of academics, creativity and character building. This also makes learning fun, and brings out the best in our students. Community-based activities are included, to build qualities like citizenship, compassion and empathy.

The curriculum at IIJS is a right mix of academics, creativity and character building. This brings out the best in our students. Community-based activities are included, to help develop values, such as respect, empathy and discipline.

The Indus curriculum is geared to our students becoming whole people and independent learners, who will be self-motivated to seek knowledge. Knowledge at Indus is not merely about natural sciences, social sciences and the arts. True knowledge is experiential and transformational.

IIJS emphasizes a trans-disciplinary education through an inquiry- based approach to learning. The curriculum encourages children to ask question, plan investigations, explore various outcomes and reach credible and logical conclusions with teachers as facilitators. We provide a curriculum that is engaging, exciting, challenging and relevant to children. Using higher order thinking skills help children analyse, synthesize and understand what they learn. while enhancing their ability to transfer competencies and skills.

The curriculum facilitates:

1. Language Development

Concentrating on the basics of oral communication- speaking and listening, reading and comprehending simple texts and encouraging writing skills, this area of learning helps children stay ahead of the curve by giving them the edge to start writing expressively and reading voraciously.

2. Numeracy

The area helps children develop their skills in logical operations. We help them build a strong mathematical foundation though practical tasks, stories, songs, games and imaginative plays. We also help children understand how mathematics can be applied in real life.

3. Science and Social Studies

Children are inquisitive by birth. Every day they are exposed to a whole range of sights and sounds which stimulates their curiosity. We help them develop crucial knowledge, skills and understanding to make sense of the world around them and learn from life itself.

4. Personal, Social and Physical Education

To become true leaders, children learn to strive for success through all round development of their personal, social, emotional and physical selves. This provides them with an excellent opportunity to succeed in all areas of learning and mature into emotionally and socially balanced members of society.

5. Creative Arts

Exploring and practising both visual and performing arts helps children experience a unique integration of the body and mind. We therefore encourage children to indulge in and appreciate different forms of creative expressions like art, music, dance and role play.

Children with Special Educational Needs

At Indus, we plan for every child’s learning requirements, including those with Special Educational Needs. The focus is on eliminating barriers for children which prevent them from achieving their normal milestones. Effective strategies to meet these needs in the form of Individual Educational Plans are employed. Where required we work with specialists from other agencies to support the child. We do not discriminate between children and aim to include every child, by providing equal opportunities for all.

Knowledge gained in classrooms has to be augmented by practical experience in the community. In the words of Marilyn vos Savant, "To acquire knowledge, one must study; but to acquire wisdom, one must observe". Leadership is developed by enabling students to discover their "other selves" and their complete range of multiple intelligences. Sports, community involvement, the fine arts, performing arts, aesthetics and robust outdoor activities lend themselves to fostering leadership qualities.

Learning Methodology

In keeping with Indus International School's promise of comprehensive and holistic education through a developmental approach, modern methodologies are employed to enable learning.

These methodologies are a departure from traditional rote learning that is imparted in most schools. While the syllabus for each grade is structured, teachers have the autonomy and flexibility to design the curriculum. The Centre Head assists and supports teachers in the choice of materials and methodology. It is also the former's responsibility to shape and integrate online-offline learning, as well as the formal and informal curriculum.

Learning is progressed by:

  • Student Centric
  • Project-based Learning
  • Creativity-centered
  • Citizenship
Focus on teacher-driven instruction reduces students to passive recipients of knowledge. Traditional teaching is a one-way street, where teachers teach and students learn by rote. To counteract this, we create an environment in which students are systematically encouraged to continually seek their own learning, through inquiry and experimentation. Our teachers play the role of "facilitators".
Students are assigned individual projects in their areas of specific intelligence to develop and hone their research skills and respective intelligences.
Apart from regular learning in all disciplines, the School provides Computer Clubs for creative learning. Students are given the opportunity of acquiring digital fluency and are encouraged to go beyond just accessing information. Computers are used to learn and develop multimedia skills like producing music, videos, animation and robotics. At Indus, we provide a state-of-the-art media centre that enables students to discover fully their creative potential.
Given the rising demands and needs of a rapidly changing global community, knowledge and skills for responsible citizenship at the local, state, national and global level becomes important. The School's citizenship curriculum has evolved through a new concept of multidimensional citizenship education, whereby both the School and the community interface as partners.
