Major Internet Disruption Affects Many Websites and Applications
A widespread web outage has affected many websites and applications globally, as users reporting troubles connecting to the web following issues at Amazon’s cloud computing platform.
The impacted apps comprise the social media app Snapchat, Roblox, the messaging service Signal, and the language learning app Duolingo, as well as a host of Amazon-managed services like its primary shopping platform and the Ring doorbell device manufacturer.
Across the United Kingdom, the financial institution Lloyds was impacted in addition to its branches the bank Halifax and Bank of Scotland, and additional accounts of difficulties using the the tax authority online portal on that morning. Additionally in Britain, several Ring device owners took to networks to report their home gadgets were failing.

The company stated that the problem started in the Atlantic coast of the US at Amazon Web Services, a division that offers essential web infrastructure for many businesses, who utilize space on Amazon servers. The cloud platform is the world’s largest online services service.
Shortly after midnight (PDT) in the United States (morning UK time), the company announced “elevated problem frequencies and latencies” for Amazon's platforms in a zone on the eastern US of the America. The ripple effect seemed to hit platforms worldwide, with the outage tracking website indicating problems with the corresponding services in various regions.
The outage tracker Thousand Eyes, a service that reports on web disruptions, further indicated a surge in issues on the start of the week, with many of them situated in the Virginia area, the region of the AWS US-East-1 zone where officials confirmed the issues began.
